In a shocking incident, a man identified as Rakesh Gupta robbed a branch of Prathama UP Gramin Bank in Pant Nagar locality, Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, February 2. Wielding a sickle, the accused threatened a female cashier, holding her hostage while looting Rs 8.54 lakh in cash. A video of the robbery circulated on social media, prompting a swift response from Gonda Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal. Just hours after the incident, the police, through an encounter, arrested Gupta, who attempted to evade authorities.
The SP formed five teams to track down the robber, leading to an intensive search operation. During a police check on Mokalpur Road, Gupta, riding a motorcycle, allegedly opened fire at the police team. In retaliation, the police fired back, injuring Gupta in his right leg. The wounded suspect was taken to the district hospital for treatment, and the police recovered the stolen cash, a pistol, and the motorcycle used in the crime from his possession. SP Vineet Jaiswal announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the police team that successfully apprehended Rakesh Gupta.
