The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station SHO Abhijit Mandal. Both were taken into custody for their alleged roles in delaying the registration of the FIR and for missing evidence in the case.
Sandip Ghosh, who was already in judicial custody due to a separate investigation related to financial irregularities, has now been linked to the mishandling of the rape and murder case. His detention has been extended until September 23. Alongside him, the CBI has arrested police officer Abhijit Mandal, citing negligence in handling critical aspects of the case, including a delay in filing the FIR.
The CBI, which took over the case following a Calcutta High Court order, had earlier conducted a second round of polygraph tests on Ghosh as part of their detailed probe. On August 26, the agency expanded its investigation to examine the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of key evidence.
The Calcutta High Court has instructed the CBI to submit a progress report on the investigation by September 17, adding pressure on the central agency to resolve this high-profile case.
