The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids on several municipalities in the state on Wednesday as part of an investigation into alleged fraud in the appointment process.
Starting with the Urban Development Department in Salt Lake, CBI teams were deployed to 14 municipalities across the state.
The operation aims to scrutinize appointment-related documents and probe corruption within the municipal government. The CBI also visited the residence of Ayan Sheel, who was previously arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a recruitment corruption case.
Municipalities in Halishahar, Titagarh, New Barrackpore, Shantipur, and Dakshin Dumdum were among those targeted.
In response to the raids, State Public Works and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim dismissed the actions as politically motivated. He affirmed that the state government is actively investigating corruption allegations within the municipalities.
The CBI team continues its investigations in Shantipur, Panihatti, Nagronnayan Bhawan in Salt Lake, North Dum Dum, and Baranagar Halishahar Municipality, focusing on the case of recruitment corruption and conducting extensive searches.
