CBI seeks probe details on Mahua Moitra's cash-for-queries allegations

The legal challenges for Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra persist as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Lok Sabha Secretariat to obtain the Ethics Committee's report. This report, which recommended the expulsion of Moitra from Parliament on charges related to cash-for-queries, is crucial for the ongoing investigation. According to sources, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has yet to submit the Ethics Committee report to the CBI, even though the committee had previously recommended an inquiry into the allegations. The CBI's request indicates the agency's intent to further its probe into the cash-for-queries charges against Moitra.

The Ethics Committee's recommendation for an investigation has heightened the scrutiny on Moitra's alleged involvement in the cash-for-queries scandal. If the Lok Sabha Secretariat receives approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and provides the Ethics Committee report to the CBI, the central investigating agency could proceed to file an FIR against Mahua Moitra without seeking Lokpal approval.
