The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for Class 12 students to apply for verification of marks and re-evaluation of answer sheets from June 6 to June 7. The board said the extension was granted to provide additional time to students and address technical difficulties reported on the post-result services portal.
CBSE launched its online portal for post-result services on June 2. Following the launch, several students reported problems accessing answer sheets and submitting applications for verification and re-evaluation. The board also filed an FIR regarding cyber attacks targeting the portal, and Delhi Police has begun an investigation. According to CBSE, repeated cyber attacks were detected and blocked over the past three days beginning June 2.
Officials stated that 70,433 applications had been received through the portal by June 4. Of these, 7,314 applications were submitted for verification of marks, while 63,119 were submitted for re-evaluation. The re-evaluation portal, originally scheduled to open on June 1, was launched a day later due to technical reasons.
CBSE said that shortly after the portal became operational, it was targeted by a Denial of Service attack. The board recorded approximately 1.5 million hits within two minutes and more than 100,000 attempts to gain unauthorised access to files. CBSE stated that there has been no evidence of any data breach or unauthorised access to student information. Cybersecurity support was provided by teams from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, I4C, CERT-In and other central agencies.
The board has faced scrutiny since the declaration of Class 12 results on May 13, 2026, when the overall pass percentage stood at 85.20%, compared with 88.39% in 2025. Concerns were raised by students regarding the newly introduced On-Screen Marking system, under which answer sheets were scanned and evaluated digitally. Questions over the system intensified after a Delhi student reportedly received another student’s Physics answer sheet during re-evaluation. Subsequently, the central government transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta, while an investigation was ordered into procurement procedures and technical issues related to the digital evaluation process.
