  • Accused’s father backs strict action if son found guilty

Amid ongoing investigation, the father of one of the four arrested accused, including prime accused Monojit Mishra, “First, I am a citizen of India, then a father. The matter is sub-judice and the police are carrying out the investigation.” He added, “We have trust in the court... Strict punishment should be given to him if he is found to be involved in the incident... We have full faith in the Kolkata police.”

In the Kasba gangrape case, forensic teams recovered blood stains from South Calcutta Law College’s common room and seized a hockey stick during a Friday night search. Samples were also collected from the guard room, where the assault allegedly took place. CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused dragging the victim. Police have seized the hard disk and are examining footage from nearby shops. Four people, including a TMCP leader, have been arrested.

Kolkata Police stopped a BJP protest march over the Kasba gangrape case before it began in Gariahat on Friday. A scuffle broke out as BJP workers clashed with police and broke barricades. State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar was arrested at the spot. Heavy deployment of police was seen in the area to maintain law and order.

State BJP leader Agnimitra Pal on Friday said the party does not want a CBI probe into the Kasba gangrape case and supports an investigation by Kolkata Police. Citing the CBI’s failure in the Ajikar case, she said, “Police are funded by taxpayers—let them do their job.” The BJP demands a swift and transparent probe by city police.

  • Medical report confirms rape of Kolkata Law student, assault injuries found

The medical examination of the law student allegedly gangraped inside a Kolkata law college has confirmed rape and physical assault, police said. Conducted at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMC), the report details injuries consistent with sexual violence. Doctors noted multiple bite marks, nail scratches, and other signs of physical force on the survivor’s body.

Three accused have been arrested in the case—Manojit Mishra (31), Jaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20). Mishra, a former student, is the main accused. The other two are current students. Manojit and Jaib were arrested on June 26, and Pramit was arrested the next morning. All three were produced before court and have been remanded to police custody till July 1. Police have filed charges of gangrape, assault, and wrongful confinement in the FIR.

Pinaki Banerjee (55), the college security guard, was also arrested on June 29 in connection with the case. Officials said digital evidence, including CCTV footage, is being collected. The survivor’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC. The investigation is ongoing.
