A Central Field Inspection team is set to visit West Bengal once again to probe allegations of irregularities in centrally sponsored schemes, specifically focusing on the 100-day employment scheme under MNREGA and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Ongoing disputes between the state government and the Centre regarding outstanding payments have fueled the need for this review. The National Level Monitoring Division (NLMD) has conveyed the impending inspection to the state secretariat. The central team, yet to disclose the districts they will visit, plans to stay in the state for four days, concluding their assessment by December 15.
Meanwhile, a senior official from the state Panchayat Affairs and Rural Development Department questions the necessity of this inspection, citing the state secretariat's response to central queries in May, asserting that the Centre's repeated inspections seem to question the information provided by the state.
