Centre briefs all-party meeting on the success of “Operation Sindoor”

The Central government on Thursday briefed leaders of all major political parties on the military operation launched against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), named Operation Sindoor. The briefing came a day after the Indian armed forces conducted targeted air and missile strikes on nine terror sites, in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Union ministers Amit Shah, S Jaishankar, JP Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Our country has taken a big action. We have called for an all-party meeting over Operation Sindoor, which was conducted by our armed forces. We must brief all the parties about the situation, as it is the responsibility of the government, and the PM has directed us to do so.”

The opposition was represented by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress’s Sandip Bandyopadhyay, DMK’s T R Baalu, Samajwadi Party’s Ram Gopal Yadav, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, BJD’s Sasmit Patra, and CPI(M)’s John Brittas. Also present were JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha, LJP (Ram Vilas)’s Chirag Paswan, and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

According to details shared during the meeting, the strikes on Wednesday targeted key facilities of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke, along with several other camps across PoK and Pakistani Punjab. These were identified as active terror hubs involved in facilitating cross-border infiltration and attacks. The operation was launched in the early hours and lasted for several hours, according to officials.

Following the strikes, Punjab Police cancelled leaves of all officers and employees with immediate effect. Flight operations in Karachi, Lahore, and Sialkot were also temporarily suspended. The Canadian government issued a travel advisory cautioning its citizens against travel to Jammu and Kashmir and areas within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border, citing the military escalation. The all-party meeting marks the second such briefing in two weeks, the first having been held on April 24 after the Pahalgam attack.
