The controversy surrounding Sarke Chunar reached the Lok Sabha, where the Centre confirmed that the song has been banned following widespread backlash over its content. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that freedom of speech cannot be absolute and must operate within reasonable restrictions aligned with societal and cultural values.
The song, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, is part of the upcoming film KD: The Devil. It triggered controversy soon after its release due to allegations of sexually explicit lyrics and provocative visuals. The Hindi version was later removed from YouTube following growing criticism, though versions in other languages remain available.
The issue was raised in Parliament by an MP seeking clarity from the government. Several public figures also criticised the track, calling it vulgar and inappropriate. Meanwhile, lyricist Raqeeb Alam distanced himself, stating he only translated the original Kannada lyrics written by director Prem.
Amid the backlash, the film’s team has reportedly decided to rework the song with cleaner lyrics and may release a revised version along with an apology.
