The ongoing tussle between the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, and the Narendra Modi-led Central government over the alleged stoppage of economic allocation to West Bengal has been escalating for quite some time now.
However, in a recent development, the Central government has allocated a sum of Rs 979 crore for the Panchayat Department of the state to complete the central projects pending in the panchayats. The allocated amount will be utilized for providing tap water to every household, constructing rural roads, and other Panchayati Raj services.
Earlier, the Central Government had allocated Rs 1200 crore for the mid-day meal project under the Ministry of Education. Despite these financial allocations, Banerjee has repeatedly alleged that the Centre owes the West Bengal government a financial allocation of Rs 1 lakh 15 thousand crore. She had even staged a two-day dharna to protest against the alleged stoppage of economic allocation.
During the dharna, Banerjee had made many serious allegations against the Centre. However, after the recent financial allocation, it seems that the Central government is taking steps to address the issue of pending economic allocation to the state. It is also worth noting that Banerjee's government has been accused of not providing the Centre with a detailed account of income and expenditure of the amount received from the Centre.
The ongoing tussle between the Centre and the state government continues, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds in the coming days.
