Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
Hasi Rath, the mother of Suvendu Adhikari’s slain personal assistant Chandranath Rath, has alleged that her son was murdered as an act of political revenge. Speaking shortly after the tragedy, she claimed that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) targeted her son because of his pivotal role in managing high-stakes constituencies like Nandigram, Chandipur, and Bhabanipur during the 2026 assembly elections. She specifically noted that Suvendu Adhikari’s victory over Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur made her son a marked man.
Hasi Rath said that while Suvendu Adhikari urged discipline among workers, TMC leaders issued open threats. She recalled warnings from local leaders who suggested that even "fathers from Delhi" would be unable to save opposition workers after the election results on June 4th. To her, the brutal shooting in Madhyamgram was the direct fulfillment of those warnings, executed to settle political scores after a high-profile electoral loss.
Despite her immense grief and the violent nature of her son’s death, Hasi Rath’s plea for justice came with a surprising condition. While she firmly demands the strictest punishment for the killers, she explicitly stated that she does not wish for them to be hanged. "I am a mother," she said, explaining that she does not want another mother to lose a child to the gallows. Instead, she is demanding life imprisonment for the perpetrators so they can suffer the weight of their crimes behind bars.
