Chandranath Sinha ordered to appear in Court in recruitment scam after Governor nod

Governor C. V. Ananda Bose has granted approval for prosecution against state minister Chandranath Sinha in the primary teachers’ recruitment corruption case. Following the Governor’s clearance, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) informed the special CBI court that the chargesheet filed against Sinha can now proceed. The court has directed him to appear in person and surrender on September 12.

According to ED sources, Sinha’s name surfaced during the investigation based on leads from Kuntal Ghosh, the expelled Trinamool youth leader from Balagarh. Earlier this month, central investigators filed a chargesheet against Sinha in the special CBI court in Kolkata, making him one of the accused in the case.

The case had been delayed as investigators were awaiting mandatory approval from the Raj Bhavan. The ED had submitted before the court that witness examination and further trial could not move forward without this clearance. With the Governor’s approval now in place, the legal process can continue.

Chandranath Sinha had earlier avoided two summons issued by the ED before appearing once for questioning a few days ago. The recruitment corruption case has already named several senior political leaders and government officials as accused. Sinha is now required to be present in court to respond to the charges on the scheduled date.
