The Union Government has approved a proposal from the West Bengal state administration extending the service tenure of Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal by six months. The decision was formally communicated through an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions on Thursday, July 23.
Manoj Agarwal, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the West Bengal cadre, took over as the state's top bureaucrat earlier this year. Prior to assuming the role of Chief Secretary, he served as the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and held various key administrative portfolios across state departments.
The extension provides administrative continuity at Nabanna as the state government navigates key policy implementations and inter-departmental initiatives. With the central clearance in place, Agarwal will continue to helm the state’s executive machinery for the extended six-month period.
