Child traumatized as mother kills live-in partner and surrenders

A chilling incident has rattled Kolkata, West Bengal, as a child grapples with shock following his mother's surrender to the police after fatally stabbing her live-in partner. The child, son of the accused from her previous marriage, was sent to his grandparents' care on Tuesday night after the harrowing event unfolded. While it remains uncertain if the child witnessed the murder, the tumultuous relationship between his mother and her partner had already left him in a fragile mental state, exacerbated by the separation from his biological father.

The accused, identified as 32-year-old Sanghati Paul, had been living with her partner, Sarthak Das, in a rented apartment on Madhubani road in Kolkata. Their relationship, forged through a social media platform, took a tragic turn amid reported verbal altercations, culminating in a fatal confrontation. Sarthak, a professional photographer, allegedly arrived home intoxicated, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a gruesome murder. Paul promptly contacted the authorities, confessing to the crime. This incident adds to a concerning trend of toxic outcomes in live-in relationships, echoing a recent tragic case from Surat, Gujarat, where a woman lost her life in a similar scenario, suspected to be motivated by infidelity.
