"Kolkata to get Water Metro connectivity," says Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
The West Bengal CID has made a significant breakthrough in the sensational murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Following a multi-state manhunt, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) detained three suspects from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The individuals, described as "infamous marksmen" with extensive criminal histories, were tracked down using advanced technical surveillance. Among those apprehended is a history-sheeter named Vishal, who was detained during a late-night operation in Buxar, Bihar, and subsequently brought to Kolkata for intensive interrogation.
Investigators have categorized the May 6 assassination in Madhyamgram as a professional and "pre-planned" contract killing. The breakthrough came after the SIT identified a vehicle used in the ambush, which carried fake license plates linked to a Siliguri resident, eventually leading them to an organized gang operating out of UP. The suspects were captured on CCTV during the crime, and their movements were traced across state borders. Police are now focusing on the logistical support provided to these shooters, including local intelligence and the source of the high-end weapons used in the hit.
With the suspects being brought to the state for transit remand, the CID aims to uncover the identity of the mastermind who hired the professional killers. Authorities believe that the interrogation of Vishal and his accomplices will provide the vital link needed to expose the larger conspiracy and the motive behind the high-profile ambush that claimed Rath’s life near his home. The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Barasat Court today as the CID seeks their custody for further investigation.
