Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
The investigation into the murder of property businessman Mohammad Shafique Khan in Howrah’s Pilkhana area has been handed over to the CID, with a team visiting the crime scene on Saturday to begin a detailed probe. In a major breakthrough, police recovered the weapons allegedly used in the crime after interrogating one of the accused who was taken on police remand.
According to officials, two firearms and two magazines were seized late Friday night during a special operation. The weapons were recovered from a water tank at the residence of Mohammad Wakil alias Munna, a resident of the Bowbazar police station area. The recovery followed sustained questioning of the accused, which led investigators to the concealed arms.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, police said Wakil revealed during interrogation that the main accused, Haroon Khan and Rafaqat, had handed over the weapons to him after carrying out the murder on February 25. The firearms were allegedly hidden in the water tank in an attempt to destroy evidence and evade detection as the investigation now proceeds under CID supervision.
