Kalighat-TMC can withdraw necessary funds through special officer, HC gives interim relief
The state government has officially handed over the investigation into the encounter death of Prabhas Mondal to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Mondal, the prime accused in the brutal rape and murder of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in Baruipur, was shot dead by the police during a late-night crime scene reconstruction exercise. A specialized team of CID officials will take over the case diaries and begin their forensic analysis of the shooting.
According to senior police officials, an investigative team of nearly 10 personnel accompanied Mondal to the crime scene for crime-scene mapping. During the procedure, Mondal allegedly snatched a service revolver from an escorting officer, pointed the firearm at the team, and fired a round while attempting to flee custody. Law enforcement personnel retaliated by firing two rounds in self-defense, inflicting fatal injuries on the escaping suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the sub-divisional hospital.
The development has drawn emotionally stark reactions from both the victim's and the suspect's families following the horrific nature of the initial minor assault case. The mother of the deceased accused, Sandhya Mondal, stated publicly that she felt no grief over the encounter, declaring that her son received his inevitable consequence for torturing an innocent child. Concurrently, the victim's father expressed complete confidence in Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and the state police administration, stating that the fast-paced law enforcement measures have provided reassurance to the grieving family.
