Mamata loses her temper, slaps own party worker during rally against Baruipur case
The long-awaited municipal elections for the Kolkata and Howrah civic bodies are highly likely to take place in the final week of November. Minister of State for Municipal and Urban Development and Howrah North MLA, Umesh Rai, officially announced the timeline. He further stated that the state administration has decided to comprehensively restructure and divide the Howrah municipal jurisdiction into exactly 60 distinct wards.
The state government is set to immediately initiate the re-evaluation and delimitation of boundary lines across both municipal corporations. According to the minister, this crucial boundary restructuring process is designed to optimize civic administration. Once the delimitation work wraps up successfully, formal voting procedures will commence by late November, paving the way for the formation of newly elected municipal boards in the first week of December.
Minister Rai critically noted that previous administrative divisions in Howrah were executed by the Trinamool Congress for political leverage, which inadvertently created a highly complex logistical situation. The current structural shift to 60 wards is heavily backed by recent surveys aimed at delivering far more efficient municipal services to local citizens. Additionally, boundary delimitation activities for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation are scheduled to kick off shortly.
