Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A civic volunteer posted at Contai Police Station in East Midnapore district has been arrested for allegedly forging the signatures of senior police officers and issuing fake police verification reports. The arrest has triggered concern within administrative circles and sparked political reactions in the district.
The accused, identified as Dhananjay Karan, is alleged to have been preparing forged verification documents by imitating the signatures of senior officials over a prolonged period. According to police sources, he used these fake reports to mislead members of the public and allegedly extorted money from them. The matter came to light after a complaint was lodged, prompting an internal probe that led to his arrest.
Karan was produced before the Contai court, which remanded him to five days of police custody for further investigation. Following the incident, a political blame game has intensified between the ruling party and the opposition, adding to the controversy surrounding the case.
