On Friday morning, Bishwajit Goswami, a civic volunteer, was killed in a road accident in the Salasalabari area of Alipurduar while performing traffic control duties on the national highway. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM when a 16-wheeled truck, traveling from Assam to Siliguri, struck Goswami from behind. The impact threw him onto the road, and the truck then ran over him before speeding away from the scene. Local residents who witnessed the incident attempted to chase the truck.
Goswami was immediately rushed to a local hospital by nearby residents, but he was declared dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries.
