Civic volunteer killed in Alipurduar as 16-wheeled truck runs him over while controlling traffic

On Friday morning, Bishwajit Goswami, a civic volunteer, was killed in a road accident in the Salasalabari area of Alipurduar while performing traffic control duties on the national highway. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM when a 16-wheeled truck, traveling from Assam to Siliguri, struck Goswami from behind. The impact threw him onto the road, and the truck then ran over him before speeding away from the scene. Local residents who witnessed the incident attempted to chase the truck.

Goswami was immediately rushed to a local hospital by nearby residents, but he was declared dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries. Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene, and an investigation was launched. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to understand the sequence of events. Police are also examining whether the driver of the truck was under the influence of alcohol or involved in any other reckless behavior that contributed to the accident.

Following the accident, the truck driver attempted to flee, but local residents managed to identify the vehicle and apprehended the driver and co-driver shortly thereafter.
