Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud delivered a poignant Christmas message during celebrations at the Supreme Court, expressing heartfelt condolences for the four Indian Army soldiers who lost their lives in a terrorist ambush in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch.
Chandrachud emphasized the selfless dedication of the armed forces, stating, "We will give up everything, even if it comes to our lives, as so many people in our Armed Forces do in the service of the nation." The CJI urged everyone to remember those at the borders sacrificing their lives to protect the nation, urging reflection on the true meaning of Christmas.
The CJI's remarks coincide with Army Chief General Manoj Pande's visit to the Rajouri sector, where the tragic ambush occurred. Four soldiers lost their lives, and three others were injured in the attack.
The Poonch-Rajouri sectors, overseen by the 16 Corps, are undergoing a routine change in command as Lt Gen Sandeep Jain hands over command to Lt Gen Naveen Sachdev. The Army is conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the sector, reiterating its commitment to supporting and cooperating in the investigations.
