Another KMC councillor, Biswajit Mondal arrested, after woman alleges molestation and threats
An incident of violence was reported during the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in the Barabani area of Asansol, further intensifying the political atmosphere ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal. According to reports, the procession came under attack when it reached Barabani, triggering clashes between workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress.
The Parivartan Yatra had started from Maithon in Asansol and was scheduled to pass through four districts as part of the BJP’s outreach campaign before the elections. Party leaders alleged that Trinamool Congress workers attacked the procession in the presence of the police, leading to chaos at the site.
During the incident, clashes broke out between workers of both parties and several people are feared to have been injured. Central forces were rushed to the spot soon after information about the incident was received, and efforts were made to bring the situation under control. A heavy deployment of police personnel has been made in the area as tension continues to prevail.
