Tension flared in Durgapur shortly after the conclusion of a roadshow led by Amit Shah, as a confrontation between workers of the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party escalated into violence. The incident took place in the Bankura More area, where an initial verbal altercation between rival supporters quickly turned into a physical clash, heightening the already charged political atmosphere ahead of elections.
According to reports, at least two workers from both sides sustained injuries during the clash and were rushed to the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in a severely injured condition. The situation prompted immediate political reactions, with BJP candidate from Durgapur West Lakshman Chandra Ghorui and Trinamool Congress candidate Kabi Dutta visiting the hospital to assess the condition of the injured and interact with party workers.
The Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that one of its workers, identified as Ravi Das, was specifically targeted and brutally assaulted for participating in Amit Shah’s roadshow, claiming that his head was smashed during the attack. Lakshman Ghorui accused the Trinamool Congress of creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. However, the Trinamool Congress strongly denied these allegations, countering that the BJP was attempting to create unnecessary unrest for political gain. Kabi Dutta stated that while it is easy to ignite tension, restoring peace is far more difficult. Following the clash, the area remains tense with heightened vigilance.
