Clash over Biryani leads to bombing in Howrah's Tikiapara; 4 arrested

Tikiapara witnessed severe violence late on Sunday night after a minor dispute escalated into a bloody clash between two local groups. Several people were injured in the incident, with one youth reported to be in critical condition, triggering panic and tension across the area.

According to police and local accounts, the trouble began near a biryani shop close to Pagla Gate when a young man allegedly spat near the outlet, leading to an argument with the shop owner and others present. What started as a personal dispute soon took the shape of a confrontation between two neighbourhoods, escalating rapidly as night progressed.

Eyewitnesses said both sides resorted to heavy stone-pelting, hurling bricks and glass bottles at each other. The situation worsened when crude bombs were allegedly detonated, creating fear among residents. Several parked vehicles along the roadside were vandalised during the rampage.

One injured youth was found lying in a blood-soaked condition and was rushed to Howrah District Hospital, where doctors said his condition remains critical. Other injured persons were also treated for varying degrees of injuries sustained during the clashes.

Following the incident, Howrah police rushed to the spot in large numbers and carried out a lathi-charge to disperse the miscreants. Four main accused have been arrested so far, while others are being identified through CCTV footage. RAF personnel and additional police forces have been deployed, and patrolling has been intensified to prevent further unrest.
