The Delhi Police have arrested a Class 12 student for allegedly sending bomb threat emails to schools across the city, triggering panic and causing widespread disruptions. The student, a minor, is accused of sending at least 23 bomb threat emails, each targeting multiple schools in the national capital. Authorities confirmed that the student sent the emails with the aim of causing disruptions in order to avoid taking his school exams. In each threat, the student marked several schools in an effort to avoid suspicion regarding his own institution.
The bomb threats led to evacuations at numerous schools as bomb squads and sniffer dogs were deployed to assess the situation. However, no bombs or suspicious items were found in any of the schools. Despite the panic caused by these hoaxes, all the threats were ultimately deemed to be false. In one instance, the student sent an email to 23 schools in a single communication. The threats were made between December 9 and December 14, 2024, and were part of a larger series of incidents that have plagued Delhi in recent months.
Officials stated that the student's primary goal was to disrupt his exams, believing that bomb threats would force authorities to cancel or postpone the tests. During the investigation, the student admitted to sending previous bomb threat emails in earlier months. The police have confirmed that the student sent threats to a variety of institutions, not just schools, including hospitals and airports, as part of a broader wave of hoaxes that began in May 2024.
Since the first bomb threats were reported, authorities have been on high alert, responding to a series of similar hoaxes across the city. The police have been investigating each incident, and in several cases, they found that the threats were linked to individuals who sought to avoid exams or other responsibilities. In light of the growing number of bomb hoaxes, the Delhi Police and Education Department have been conducting training seminars for school staff to better handle such situations and ensure student safety.
Alongside the school disruptions, the hoaxes have also affected the aviation sector. Multiple bomb threats led to emergency landings, flight delays, and the use of additional fuel, which caused logistical challenges and increased operational costs for airlines. The Delhi Police are continuing their investigation into the student’s activities and are working to identify any possible connections to other bomb hoaxes in the city.
