A Class 4 girl was killed in a bomb blast in Kaliganj’s Moland area of Nadia district on Monday while vote counting for the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll was underway. The explosion occurred before the official declaration of results. Locals reported that a bomb was allegedly hurled at the house of a CPM supporter during political tensions in the area.
The victim, a young student, died on the spot after being hit by the blast. The incident has triggered tension in the locality. Following the explosion, police reached the scene and initiated an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem, and forensic teams have been deployed to examine bomb remnants.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted about the incident on her X handle, stating, “Shocked and saddened by the death of a girl in Krishnanagar Police District. I express my condolences to the bereaved family. Police will take strict action; legal steps will be taken against the culprits.” Security has been tightened in and around Kaliganj following the violence.
