Class 6 student dies by drowning in swimming pool at school-organised summer camp

An 11-year-old Class VI student died after drowning in a swimming pool during a summer camp organised by his school in Asansol on Thursday morning. The deceased student was identified as Advik Hilarian, a student of St. Vincent’s School in Asansol. According to available information, Advik had entered the swimming pool during the camp session when the incident occurred. He was immediately pulled out of the water and rushed to Asansol District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident has triggered grief and anger among the student’s family members, who have raised allegations against the school authorities.

According to the swimming instructor present at the camp, a total of 33 students were attending the programme organised by the school. Advik reportedly moved toward the deeper middle section of the pool while swimming and suddenly began to drown. He was quickly rescued from the water, and CPR was administered at the spot. During the rescue attempt, water was reportedly seen coming out from his mouth. He was then shifted to the hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The school principal stated that the institution would stand beside the bereaved family during this difficult period.

The incident comes shortly after another student death in Kolkata’s Netajinagar had led to allegations of negligence against school authorities. In that case, a Class III student named Ayush Nath had fallen critically ill after attending school and later died in hospital due to a brain hemorrhage, according to doctors. The deceased child’s family had lodged a written complaint at Netajinagar Police Station alleging negligence by the school administration. The latest incident in Asansol has once again brought focus on student safety and supervision during school-related activities.
