An eight-year-old Class III student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir in Netajinagar died on Sunday after remaining in a coma for 12 days, with his family accusing the school authorities of negligence and failing to inform them in time about his condition. The student, identified as Ayush Nath, was admitted to hospital on May 13 after falling seriously ill at school. Police have started an investigation following a written complaint filed by the family.
According to Ayush’s father, the child had gone to school on May 13 like any other day. He alleged that when he arrived to pick up his son after school hours, he received a call from the staff room asking him to come immediately. He claimed he found Ayush nearly unconscious and drenched in water while teachers were allegedly trying to revive him by slapping his cheeks. The child was then taken directly to hospital from the school premises.
Family members alleged that Ayush had informed school authorities earlier in the day that he was feeling unwell, but despite this, he was allegedly made to attend multiple classes without his parents being informed. The child’s mother further alleged that Ayush later rolled down a staircase while carrying his school bag and hit a wall. She claimed classmates later described the incident to the family, while the school authorities allegedly never disclosed any fall inside the campus.
The family also alleged that the child was bathed after the incident and that important details regarding the alleged fall were not shared with doctors during treatment. According to the family, doctors later informed them that Ayush died due to brain hemorrhage after remaining in a coma for 12 days. The school administration has not issued any public statement regarding the allegations so far.
The incident triggered protests outside the school on Tuesday morning, with parents of other students accusing the administration of negligence and inadequate response toward student safety. Police are examining CCTV footage from the school premises as part of the investigation into the allegations surrounding the child’s death.
