The police have arrested Subhashish Chakraborty, alias Tukai, on charges of extortion and issuing threats. He is considered a close associate of arrested councilor Ranjan Poddar. According to police sources, personnel from the Bidhannagar South Police Station apprehended Chakraborty from the Baguiati area following a targeted raid conducted on the basis of confidential information. It is alleged that he had been absconding ever since the arrest of Ranjan Poddar in connection with the case.
Police sources stated that investigators received specific intelligence regarding Chakraborty’s location on the previous day, following which a raid was carried out and he was taken into custody. After the arrest, he was brought in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the extortion and threat allegations. Officials said further investigation into the matter is currently underway, and police are continuing to examine additional links connected to the case.
