Posta merchants go on indefinite strike to protest heckling of its office bearers
The Kolkata Police announced a sudden, last-minute reversal regarding its traffic layout at the busy EM Bypass, stating that the Chingrighata Flyover will not close for vehicular movement between July three and July six. The city traffic department officially rescinded its previous regulatory notification that had initially slated a total shutdown of the elevated corridor. According to the updated administrative circular, vehicular movement across the crucial link will remain completely normal over the four-day period, bringing significant relief to thousands of daily commuters traveling between south Kolkata, Salt Lake, and New Town.
Initially, the traffic blockade was planned to facilitate the second phase of construction on the New Garia-Airport Orange Line Metro corridor, specifically near Sukantanagar under the jurisdiction of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The engineering blueprint required a continuous sixty-hour work window to seamlessly place massive concrete deck girders between pillars number three hundred twenty-six and three hundred twenty-seven. This critical phase follows the successful and rapid completion of the first phase of segment joining executed over a period of less than one hundred twenty hours in late June, which had progressed smoothly under a similar weekend block.
Despite the temporary suspension of the flyover shutdown due to unspecified administrative reasons, the long-delayed infrastructure project is advancing rapidly after resolving historical land blockades. Metro authorities and RVNL engineers have already surveyed the eastern flank of the Chingrighata crossing to develop a new sixty-meter diversion road running along the canal adjacent to the Salt Lake Bypass. This detour will help manage traffic flow when construction crews eventually mobilize to link the viaduct with the upcoming Gaurkishore Ghosh Metro station near Nikco Park, keeping the project on track for a commercial launch by the end of this calendar year.
