A major drug smuggling attempt was foiled after authorities seized nearly 4.776 kg of cocaine worth about Rs 23.88 crore from a Brazilian national at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on February 17. Officials had prior intelligence about a passenger arriving from São Paulo via Doha allegedly carrying narcotics.
Acting on the tip-off, officers intercepted the woman immediately after her arrival and conducted a detailed search of her baggage. During inspection, four women’s handbags were found with false walls and concealed bottom compartments.
Inside the hidden cavities, investigators discovered several pieces of clothing fabric chemically infused with cocaine. The drugs had been absorbed into the material to avoid detection during routine screening.
The accused has been detained for questioning to identify the trafficking network, source and intended destination of the consignment. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.
