The Chief Minister stated that preliminary reports suggest the deaths occurred due to suffocation or jumping in an attempt to escape. Banerjee said she was continuously monitoring the fallout of the incident and appreciated the efforts of Fire Services and the police in rescuing around 99 people from the building under difficult conditions. She also thanked local residents for their cooperation and assistance in the rescue operations.
