Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
In a significant move to support jobless SSC Group C and Group D employees, the West Bengal government has decided to provide a monthly allowance until the resolution of pending legal cases. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced this decision during a meeting at Nabanna on Saturday. The allowance will continue until the court case concerning the termination of these employees is resolved. This step aims to provide financial relief to those caught in legal uncertainty as their job status remains unresolved.
The decision follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that resulted in the termination of nearly 26,000 teachers and non-teaching staff across the state. While the court allowed teachers to continue working until December 2025, pending the formation of a new recruitment panel, non-teaching staff members were not granted similar permission to continue their duties. In response to this, the state government has decided to provide monthly allowances to the non-teaching employees, ensuring they have financial support during this period.
Under the new scheme, Group C employees will receive ₹25,000 per month, while Group D employees will receive ₹20,000 per month. This allowance will be provided until the case reaches its conclusion. The Chief Minister stated that this support was essential for employees who had lost their jobs due to the legal proceedings, highlighting the state’s commitment to supporting them financially until the matter is resolved.
Additionally, the state government has expressed its condolences and support for the families of victims of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, as well as for the family of a soldier from Nadia's Tehatta who was killed in action. The government has promised to offer employment to one family member of each of these victims. This measure aims to support the affected families and provide them with a sense of security during a difficult time.
