Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has for the second consecutive day vehemently questioned the Central government's alleged policy of sending Bengali-speaking workers to detention camps. Speaking out on the contentious issue, she challenged the Centre's narrative and demanded clarity on the treatment of individuals purportedly targeted for their language.
During her statement, the Chief Minister asserted, "Why are our workers being sent to detention camps for speaking Bengali language?" She further highlighted a perceived double standard, stating, "The Centre has kept a Bangladeshi guest for several months, I do not go to speak." Her remarks underscore a growing political friction regarding the identity and rights of Bengali-speaking migrants.
Banerjee also directly addressed the controversial issue of Rohingya presence in Bengal, issuing a pointed challenge: "If there are 17 lakh Rohingyas in Bengal, then give me information about electricity." This statement appears to demand concrete data or evidence from the Centre if it maintains such figures, further intensifying the debate surrounding immigration and citizenship in the state.
