CM Mamata Banerjee to begin panchayat election campaign in Cooch Behar on June 26

The political atmosphere in West Bengal is intensifying as the state gears up for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to kickstart her election campaign from next week.

Banerjee will address her inaugural rally in Cooch Behar on Monday, 26th June, marking the beginning of her extensive campaigning across various regions of the state for the Panchayat elections.

With the voting process imminent, the Trinamool leadership is determined not to waste any time. As per reliable sources, Mamata Banerjee will arrive in Cooch Behar on Sunday itself, preceding the rally scheduled for Monday. Trinamool Congress' All India General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, had previously initiated his Trinamool Abhiyan (campaign) from the Cooch Behar district. This time, Mamata Banerjee herself will take charge of the campaign for the Panchayat elections, commencing from Cooch Behar.

One of the reasons behind this strategy is the Trinamool Congress' defeat in the Cooch Behar constituency during the 1999 Lok Sabha elections. BJP leader Nishith Pramanik emerged victorious in Cooch Behar and subsequently became a Union Minister.Similarly, during the 2018 Assembly elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress did not achieve the anticipated results in its stronghold of Cooch Behar. BJP gained substantial ground in most constituencies, prompting the Trinamool Congress to make efforts to reverse the situation.

Apart from these factors, internal disputes within the Trinamool Congress are also believed to be contributing to their focus on Cooch Behar. Even during Abhishek Banerjee's outreach program, disagreements regarding candidate selection in Cooch Behar led to chaos within the party. Addressing this issue, Abhishek Banerjee delivered a stern message. Additionally, the Rajbanshi community holds considerable influence in the Cooch Behar district. Recently, a Rajbanshi youth was tragically killed in a border area.

Mamata Banerjee strongly criticized the Border Security Force (BSF) and BJP in response to this incident. Furthermore, the Trinamool Congress is attempting to foster closer ties with the royal families in an effort to garner their support.During her visit to Cooch Behar and North Bengal, Mamata Banerjee plans to target not only the BJP but also the Congress and the Left parties. She has taken a firm stance against these opposition parties in the upcoming election.
