West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has invited senior leaders from the BJP, Left Front, and Congress to attend the inauguration of the newly built Shri Jagannath Temple in Digha on Wednesday. The invited leaders include BJP’s Dilip Ghosh, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar, Left Front chairman Biman Bose, CPI(M) leader Rabindra Dev, and Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya.
The formal inauguration by the Chief Minister is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. On Tuesday evening, Mamata Banerjee participated in the Purnahuti of the Mahayajna and performed aarti at the temple site. Religious ceremonies began on Monday and continued through Tuesday with rituals including yajnas and special prayers. A yajna dedicated to world peace was held on Tuesday, where 100 quintals of mango and bael wood and 2 quintals of ghee were offered.
Five cabinet ministers from the state government — Aroop Biswas, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Sujit Bose, Pulak Roy, and Snehasis Chakraborty — were present on-site to supervise the preparations for the ceremony. The temple inauguration has drawn devotees and visitors from across the state, along with figures from various sectors including business, art, and academia.
Trinamool Congress state general secretary Kunal Ghosh stated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had extended invitations to leaders across political lines as a gesture of “political courtesy.” He also noted that Suvendu Adhikari was previously associated with the project during the unveiling of the temple’s blueprint when he was aligned with the Chief Minister.
Dilip Ghosh said he has two pre-scheduled programmes in Shyampur, Howrah, on the same day but will try to attend the inauguration in Digha. Kunal Ghosh added that if some leaders are unable to join the event, they may visit the temple later. Attendance confirmations from Biman Bose and Rabindra Dev remain uncertain.
