CM Mamata paints ‘Vanish Kumar’ at dharna stage targeting SIR , EC

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday adopted a symbolic form of protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists while continuing her sit-in demonstration at Dharmatala. At the protest stage, Banerjee picked up a brush and canvas and created a painting that carried a pointed message aimed at the Election Commission.

On the canvas, the chief minister wrote the letters “SIR” prominently and made a sharp remark directed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar by referring to him as “Vanish Kumar”. The gesture was seen as a protest against the ongoing voter list revision process, which the Trinamool Congress claims is leading to the removal of legitimate voters’ names.

The ruling party has alleged that many valid voters are being excluded from the rolls under the SIR exercise. Banerjee reiterated that the protest movement would continue until voters’ rights are protected. Party leaders described the painting as a symbolic representation of the supremacy of voters in a democracy, while the Election Commission has maintained that the revision process is necessary to ensure transparency in electoral rolls.
