Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
In a heartwarming moment transcending political boundaries, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kirti Azad was seen dancing and celebrating at the wedding of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh. The Bardhaman-Durgapur MP grooved to the popular Bollywood track "Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai" and distributed sweets to mark the joyous occasion.
Dilip Ghosh, a veteran figure in West Bengal BJP politics, tied the knot with Rinki Majumdar at his Newtown residence in Kolkata on Friday evening. At the age of 60, Ghosh got married for the first time, fulfilling a wish long held by his mother. Rinki Majumdar, aged 50 and a divorcee, became Ghosh’s bride in an intimate family ceremony.
The celebration saw an unusual but cheerful sight as political opponent Kirti Azad not only congratulated Ghosh but also sat down for tea with workers, sharing laughter and sweets. Their camaraderie had been visible even during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when both leaders contested fiercely yet maintained respect, exchanging hugs even on polling day. Eventually, Azad emerged victorious from the Bardhaman-Durgapur seat.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also sent her good wishes to Ghosh’s residence, adding to the list of well-wishers from across the political spectrum. However, Ghosh maintained political distance, reportedly sending the greetings back without accepting them.
Speaking at the wedding, Kirti Azad expressed warm feelings, saying, "Best wishes to the new Bhabhi and Dilip Da. We may be political rivals, but marriage is a sacred journey. It is my duty to offer good wishes. I hope that now Dilip Da will also say 'Jai Siya Ram'."
The event beautifully highlighted how personal milestones often soften political rivalries, showing the human side of even the toughest political figures.
