West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday criticized the Election Commission’s decision to allow online inclusion of names in the voter list, alleging it could impact the fairness of the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference after presenting the state budget in the Assembly, she said, "The Assembly elections are scheduled for next year in the state. The Election Commission will conduct the voting with the help of central forces. The names of residents from other states will be added to the online voter list so they can come and vote. But Bengal will thwart this attempt."
Reacting to her statement, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari countered by stating that the responsibility of preparing the voter list lies with the District Magistrate (DM). Meanwhile, Mamata also expressed strong displeasure over Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s criticism of Bengal. Hitting back, she said, "Tell her to deal with her own corruption first." She further added, "Nirmala Devi, you should worry less about Bengal. What happened to the Ujjwala scheme? First, answer that."
