India beats Bangladesh by 7 wickets in first T20, chase down total in 11.5 overs
Heavy rains in South Bengal have created a flood-like situation in several districts, prompting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take immediate action. She has instructed state ministers and party leaders to visit the affected areas to assess the situation and provide relief to the victims.
State Minister Becharam Manna and MP Dev visited Hooghly and West Medinipur districts, respectively, to inspect the flood-affected areas. In Hooghly, Becharam Manna distributed essential relief materials like tarpaulins and interacted with residents to understand their problems. He reported that many parts of Arambagh and its surrounding villages have been severely submerged. Meanwhile, MP Dev surveyed the submerged Ghatal region in West Medinipur, expressing concern over the destruction caused by the floods and the hardships faced by the people.
The government has arranged for relief camps and is providing essentials to the affected. Boats and generators are on standby for emergency use. Following their inspections, ministers and MPs will report their findings to the Chief Minister, ensuring that relief efforts are closely monitored. Additionally, North 24 Parganas MLA Narayan Goswami will inspect flood-hit areas in Bangaon on Tuesday, following the CM’s orders.
The flooding is a result of continuous heavy rains due to low pressure, with fields and roads submerged and homes partially underwater. There are also concerns about potential dam breaches in some areas, with the government staying vigilant and taking necessary steps as the situation evolves.
