Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the flood-affected regions of Paschim Medinipur and Hooghly districts on August 5 to assess the situation. According to a senior official, the visit is likely to cover Ghatal and Chandrakona in Paschim Medinipur, and Arambagh in Hooghly district. After completing the inspection, she is scheduled to proceed to Jhargram.
On August 6, Mamata Banerjee will lead a ‘Bhasha Andolan’ (Language Movement) rally in Jhargram. The event is part of her pre-announced itinerary and follows her flood visit. The rally is expected to take place a day after she surveys the affected areas and meets local officials and residents.
State Irrigation Minister Manas Bhunia said that nearly two lakh people have been impacted by the recent flooding in the Ghatal sub-division. He alleged that the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) mismanaged water release from its dams in Jharkhand, which contributed to the worsening flood situation.
