Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested Governor CV Ananda Bose not to visit violence-hit Murshidabad immediately. Despite her plea, the Governor remains firm on his decision to visit the district, citing the need to assess the ground reality himself.
The situation in Murshidabad had turned volatile following protests against the amended Waqf Act, leading to vandalism and displacement of several families. Although the administration claims that peace has been restored, Mamata Banerjee emphasized the need to rebuild confidence among locals before allowing high-profile visits.
Speaking at a press conference from Nabanna, Mamata said, "The atmosphere of peace has returned. Now the confidence of the locals needs to be increased. I could have gone, but I chose to wait. I request you to wait for a few more days. Let the people's confidence come back."
Meanwhile, Governor Bose made it clear to reporters that he would not postpone his visit. "What the Chief Minister said is his request. I am going to the field to understand the real situation and speak to the victims," he stated. The Governor had earlier interacted with 19 displaced representatives from Murshidabad at the Raj Bhavan before announcing his decision.
Top police officials, including DG Rajiv Kumar, had previously visited Murshidabad to manage the situation and initiated investigations. The state government has already set up a dedicated seat to probe the violence, asserting that normalcy has largely been restored in the area.
However, with the Governor insisting on an on-ground inspection and Mamata preferring a cautious approach, the political tension over Murshidabad remains palpable.
