CM Suvendu Adhikari cuts convoy vehicles after PM Modi’s fuel-saving appeal

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has reduced the number of vehicles in his official convoy following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve fuel amid rising economic pressure linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis. The Chief Minister said only vehicles required under the mandatory security protocol would remain part of the convoy, while unnecessary vehicles would be removed.

Speaking outside the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday, Suvendu Adhikari said he had instructed security officials to reduce the number of accompanying vehicles. “I have asked the security staff to remove the unnecessary vehicles,” he said after attending the oath-taking ceremony at the Assembly. The move comes shortly after the Prime Minister urged government officials and public representatives to minimise fuel consumption as part of broader conservation measures.

As the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari is entitled to Z+ category security along with central security cover, resulting in a multi-layered protection arrangement and a large convoy movement during official travel. Despite the security requirements attached to the post, the Chief Minister directed officials to retain only those vehicles necessary under protocol guidelines while eliminating additional convoy vehicles not considered essential.

The fuel conservation message from the Centre has also been reflected in the activities of BJP legislators in West Bengal. BJP MLAs travelled to the Assembly by bus on Wednesday to attend the oath-taking ceremony, aligning with the Prime Minister’s appeal for reduced fuel usage.
