CM Suvendu demands capital punishment for Murshidabad train accident accused

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Murshidabad on Thursday to meet the families of four students and a cyclist who died after a moving train struck a school bus in Berhampur. Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, the Chief Minister stated that financial compensation cannot replace lost lives, but emphasized that supporting the affected families remains the government's humanitarian responsibility.

Addressing the circumstances of the crash, the Chief Minister confirmed that preliminary investigations by the police and railways point to severe negligence by the duty gateman. Calling the act unforgivable, he assured the victims' families that strict action would be taken against the accused. He promised that the state government would ensure complete accountability for the tragedy.

Advocating for maximum legal penalties, the Chief Minister instructed law enforcement officials to complete the investigation while the accused remains in jail. He called for a expedited custody trial and recommended capital punishment for the gateman, directing local MLAs and police administration to closely oversee the legal proceedings.
