CM Suvendu distributes 10-lakh aid each to Taratala victims' kin; promises job, monthly pensions

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced comprehensive relief measures and financial assistance for the families affected by the tragic warehouse collapse in Taratala. During a state event on Tuesday, the Chief Minister personally handed over compensation checks of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased workers and Rs 1 lakh to those who sustained injuries. The catastrophic incident occurred on June 24, when a godown abruptly collapsed during active working hours, trapping numerous laborers under the debris and prompting a massive rescue operation by the police, fire brigade, NDRF, and the army. According to official government data, the disaster claimed the lives of 16 individuals.

In a direct interaction with the grieving family members, the Chief Minister assured them of the government's long-term solidarity and addressed their immediate livelihood concerns. Responding to a specific employment request from the wife of a deceased worker, Adhikari directed Kolkata Municipal Administrator Smita Pandey and Municipal and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Pal to identify suitable job opportunities within the municipality. The officials have been instructed to review the educational qualifications of the applicants and report back within 7 to 10 days, with the caveat that clearing the Madhyamik examinations would be necessary for standard formal roles.

Beyond immediate employment and compensation, the state administration has structured a broader welfare framework for the victims' dependents. The Chief Minister stated that the government is actively planning to provide monthly financial assistance to the families of the deceased and will fully sponsor the education of their children. Furthermore, explicit instructions were issued to Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee to ensure that all the injured workers receive completely free medical treatment and essential medicines until they achieve full recovery.
