On National Doctor's Day, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid a heartfelt tribute to the legendary physician and former Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy on his birth anniversary. During a high-profile health department event in Bidhannagar, the Chief Minister garlanded the statue of Dr. Roy and announced a major structural upgrade to local medical facilities. In a key administrative decision, he officially changed the name of the Bidhannagar Subdistrict Hospital to the Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy Multi-Specialty Hospital to honor his medical legacy.
In a bid to strengthen emergency medical logistics across the state, Chief Minister Adhikari flagged off a new fleet of 200 ambulances. These specialized vehicles are fully equipped and designated to provide seamless emergency transport primarily for pregnant women and newborns across various state-run healthcare centers. Additionally, the event marked the formal inauguration of a new theater building within the central health complex, adding modern operational infrastructure to the state's healthcare network.
The Chief Minister also rolled out a crucial policy change aimed at improving emergency patient care for the economically weaker sections. Under this new mandate, government hospital patients requiring critical or emergency treatment can now be admitted to private medical facilities, which will maintain a mandatory 10 percent free bed reservation for them. To mark the celebratory occasion, the Chief Minister also facilitated the launch of the Matru Vandana Yojana and formally felicitated four eminent doctors for their exceptional contributions to medicine.
