Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday completed 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing the tenure record of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The milestone coincided with an NDA meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi attended by chief ministers, Union ministers, and senior leaders of the alliance. During the event, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was seen serving Jhalmuri, a popular Bengali snack, to the Prime Minister at a special stall set up at the venue.
According to details of the milestone, Jawaharlal Nehru served as Prime Minister from May 13, 1952, until May 27, 1964, completing 4,398 consecutive days in office after India's first general election. By completing 4,399 uninterrupted days as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi moved ahead of that record. Leaders of the NDA and other dignitaries extended greetings on the occasion.
The Jhalmuri stall attracted attention during the NDA gathering as several leaders visited the counter and interacted in an informal setting. Prime Minister Modi was seen accepting a serving of the snack from Suvendu Adhikari and spending time with party leaders at the venue. The Bengali snack has frequently featured in political events associated with the BJP in recent years.
Jhalmuri gained prominence within the party after Narendra Modi stopped at a roadside stall in Jhargram during an election campaign in West Bengal and ate the snack publicly. Since then, it has appeared at several party events and celebrations. At the Bharat Mandapam meeting, the snack once again became a visible feature of the gathering as leaders shared it during the programme.
