Anup Majhi, alias Lala, appeared before the CBI court in Asansol on Thursday in connection with the high-profile illegal coal smuggling case. He arrived at the court premises in a white Scorpio vehicle accompanied by security personnel and proceeded directly to the designated courtroom for the scheduled hearing. His presence drew attention within the court complex as proceedings in the case resumed.
The development comes shortly after the Supreme Court withdrew the interim protection from arrest that had earlier been granted to Majhi. The apex court also permitted the Enforcement Directorate to take him into custody for 14 days for questioning. The order, issued about a week ago, marked a significant turn in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the case.
With the interim protection lifted and central agencies intensifying action, Majhi’s appearance before the CBI court is being viewed as crucial.
