In a disturbing incident in Baruipur, West Bengal, a college student was abducted, assaulted, and threatened with an acid attack after rejecting a marriage proposal. The incident occurred on Monday in the Bedberia area, within the jurisdiction of Baruipur police station. The victim, a student of Sushil Kar College in Champahati, was allegedly being harassed for some time by a local youth, Shashwat Baidya, who had proposed marriage to her. When the student rejected the proposal, Baidya reportedly became enraged.
After the rejection, Baidya, along with two accomplices, followed the student after she completed her exam at college. The three men forcibly made her sit on a scooter and drove her to the Gaudda area, where they assaulted her. The attackers also threatened the student with an acid attack during the ordeal. After the assault, the victim was left near her home, where her family found her in an injured state and immediately took her to Baruipur Hospital for medical treatment. She was later released after receiving care.
The victim, in her statement, said that Baidya had previously threatened her, warning that if she returned to college, she would be shot. The family has confirmed that Baidya had been harassing the student for some time and had been following her. Despite these threats, the student had continued her routine, including attending her exams.
Following the attack, the victim’s family filed a formal complaint with the Baruipur police, and an investigation was initiated. Police have started a manhunt for Baidya and his associates but have not yet made any arrests. The authorities are working to gather more information from the victim and witnesses as they pursue the suspects.
