A major fire broke out at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday night. Airport management sources said that the fire broke out at the "D-Portal" of the take-in area of the airport around 9:15 pm. The fire was brought under control after efforts of about one and a half hours. No one was reported injured in the incident.
However, it is not clear what was the reason for the fire. Sources said that initially there is a possibility of fire due to short circuit. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, which is being joined by a team of police along with the airport fire security team. On Thursday morning, the top officials of the airport management gave instructions regarding this.
The incident was informed by the airport management on Twitter and it was also claimed that there was no harm to any passenger. Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also tweeted and informed about the safety of all the passengers in the incident.
It is noteworthy that around 11:00 pm, Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia wrote on Twitter that there was a small fire at Kolkata airport. Things have become normal now. All the passengers and staff have been evacuated to safe places. There is no information about anyone getting injured. The take-in process has resumed and the cause of the fire will be clear soon.
